CHAPTER 1: The Journey

For 30 years, Ijs Vortem has been a student in the magic academy of Guril-host, but was suspended and eventually was sent to exile due to his radical behavior and un cooperative actions. He then set his journey to learn more about the arts that the "academy has been hiding from him". He wandered three moons without any food or water only depending in his discipline to conserve energy and meditating to stop his mortal needs. He became possesed with his longing for knowledge...and he was being successful.

He wandered and wandered until he reached a city by the name Morina. There he took tinme to rest and finally ate. Once satisfied, he headed down to the nearest city library to read magical tomes and to search for more cities where magic was taught. But it was a futile motion, all the content of the books ware "obsolete" compared to his knowledge and began to ask the scholars there to where the "next best place" was. The scholars said "this is the best place available!!!", Ijs got ticked off with their remark and left the "dumpsite" with so much disappointment.

Even though in a bad mood, Ijs still wandered inside the city walls to aquire more information. He came across a man, silent as the wind, but holds power beyond his expectations...His energy is far from normal taken into consideration that he looks not from the place. He wears clothings made from the finest silks, and holds a huge sword that he thinks is impossible to wield. At first, he did not pay heed to this man until he want to an alley and was ambushed my five men.

"They look like bandits...or it seems that they are..." Ijs said to himself watching the scene going on. "Give us your things or we'll take your life", the first man said. "YEAH!!!" the others followed. The mysterious man never gave a word, or at least Ijs didn't hear the man speak, but this infuriated the bandits. Together, they attacked, Ijs never made a blink expecting the man to make a very swiftly move - Ijs was correct. Within a split second, the man raised his sword full swing and the five men who attacked him lay bloody on the floor...dead.

"A waste of my time..." the mysterious man said - this time, Ijs heard it and gave out a silent smirk. "Why have you been following me? Are you one of them? You saw what happened to you comrades, don't let yourself share the same fate as they did...", the man said without ever looking at Ijs. This surprised Ijs for he never knew that the man was aware of him all along, he admired the man for his concsiousness. "I'm not one of them, but if you wish to fight, then I'm not backing out. But first, tell me, who are you?" Ijs replied, this time, the man looked at him straight in the eyes, ready to strike anytime.

"My name is of no use to you. Let us fight, and if I lose, I promise upon my blade, Ghalare, I shall give you my name..." the man replied. "The I will not let you down...you name is as good as drinking good ale.". With that statement finished the unnamed man lunged towards Ijs and swings his blade with one hand to finish his blabbering in one blow. The man was successful in hitting Ijs, he saw it with his two eyes as the blood drips in his blade, he made a clean slash. But as soon as he turned back, the blood slowly begins to turn dark, like the polluted mud present in the swamps. The black liquid started rising up, covering the man's blade and eventually reaching his hand. The liquid satarted covering his forearms, then his shoulders, his torso, and eventually, his whole body. He heard a voice, the same voice of the man he thought he had killed. "Did you honestly think that I would stand there defenseless?", the man still sees the image of the cadaver he just slashed. He's sure he was dead, but to his surprise, an image started to form behind it.

The liquid covered his eyes, he couldn't breathe, it was choking him...killing him slowly but surely. "Ready to admit your defeat?", Ijs asked the man covered in black matter. The man couldn't say a word but let out a scream instead - translating "NO". The liquid constricted even more, choking the man more with each passing second. "I will ask you again swordsman, do you give up?", the man was silent, but he was still alive, yet another translation of refusal. "Look, all I want is your name and a few directions, and maybe company along my journey...just give up and we both can forget about this...". The trapped man had no choice, he saw his life flash before his covered eyes and his mission as well, to become the true master of sword arts, he had no other choice, he gave up anf the liquid started to retreat at vanish into nothingness.

The man fell on his knees, a sign of dishonor to his people, but the wizard didn;t take account for that. The mysterious man coughed and gasped for air, and after a few moments he stood. "I lost, and as a part of our deal, I shall give you my name...people call me Glory..."

"Nice to meet you Glory, my name is Ijs Vortem..." Ijs then sent out a smile and shook Glory's hand as if nothing happened. "Let us forget about our little duel here and let's live normal lives...can we be friends?". This confused Glory.

Glory: "Let us get to the point magi, you said a while ago thet you were asking for directions...but to where?"

Ijs: "I honestly don't have a clue my friend...I'm searching for a place, a place where there are powerful tomes of magic, a place where I can utilize my powers even more..."

Glory: "Utilize? You mean that you are still not satisfied with your power?"

Ijs: "Nothing satisfies humans...I mean NOTHING..."

Glory: "Well, then, since you and I share the same road and that is travelling to hone our craft, I will accompany you. Until then, we shall train, and when the time comes...I shall challenge you again..."

Ijs: "I don't have a problem with that...but if we are going to leave, we must make haste. The sooner we leave, the sooner we'll get there..."
